About Nurse Practitioner Elise Lewis, FNP-C
N.P. Elise Lewis not only graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, she also graduated with honors from Texas Woman’s University, with a Master of Science in Nursing. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Elise’s early training included critical care, surgical care, and women’s health. It was during her time with an ob/gyn clinic in Austin that her interest in hormones began to pique. She saw first- hand that she could help people feel much better and safely elevate their lives with hormones. Elise went on to practice in Family Medicine which helped her become very well rounded. She still felt passionate about hormones and went on to work in Endocrinology for a few years. However, she realized that she was not able to help people like she wanted to in a traditional medicine environment. She wanted to focus on her patients more holistically incorporating nutrition, disease prevention, and education into her practice. This is how she found Dr. Leigh Ann Scott. We welcome her knowledge, compassion and experience in helping our patients improve their quality of life.
Elise follows the same basic procedures as Dr. Scott for both men and women, formulating the right protocol of hormone balance, nutrition, supplement support and weight management. Her endocrinology background has also afforded her experience and knowledge in treating thyroid disorders. She works closely with her patients, gains a full understanding of what they have been experiencing and, with the correct use of diagnostic tools and labs, she works to find the underlying causes of symptoms and address these to achieve long-term wellness for each of her patients. NP Elise Lewis also heads up our weight loss program.

About the Practice
Everyone wants a provider that can relate to you when you are discussing your health. As a gynecologist, Dr. Scott is uniquely qualified in BHRT therapy on a professional and personal level! She is attentive, compassionate, and empathetic; which are qualities that enable her to identify with her patient’s needs. Her mission is to be proactive in assisting both men and women improve their quality of life through an individualized health and wellness plan through hormone balance, nutrition, supplement support, weight management, and if indicated food allergies and environmental sensitivity testing.
In medical school and residency, Dr. Scott focused on the issues important to women. Then, like many of her patients, Dr. Scott began to experience some of the challenges of having a hormonal imbalance that are so common to women after the age of 35. Her curiosity led her to find out what really could be done to help pre and post-menopausal patients deal with the array of changes that many women experience at some point in their lives. From this personal interest came the drive and desire to fully understand the interrelationship between hormones, diet, nutrition, exercise, stress, and all the other internal and external factors influencing how women feel and look as they go through the natural aging process. It was during this time that Dr. Scott began to learn about the effectiveness of Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy, or BHRT.
The more Dr. Scott learned and understood about aging and the human biochemistry process, the more convinced she became that she could really help both men and women with these symptoms. An effective, science based approach of diet, exercise, stress management, and appropriate hormone adjustments often do the following:
- Increase Libido
- Improve Memory and Concentration
- Heart Disease and Diabetes Risk
- Improve Energy
- Control Weight Gain & Lessen Abdominal Fat
- Develop Bone and Muscle Mass
- Relieve Insomnia
- Improve Skin Tone and Appearance
- Lessen Depressed Feelings
Nurse Practitioner Elise Lewis has trained and worked under Dr. Scott and follows the same tenets and protocols as Dr. Scott.
Practicing in Family Medicine provided Elise with a wide knowledge base and experience, allowing her to look at patients as a whole and treat the patient, and not necessarily just the symptom. However, it was there where she began to see that the traditional medical model and the “one size fits all” approach was not always the most helpful to patients. It seemed to her that it had become more about how many patients could be seen rather than about treating each patient individually, and Elise simply could not conform to this.
NP Elise’s background in treating women for hormonal imbalances spurred her passion to continue her education in this area because she was able to see what a positive impact it made on her patients’ lives. When she transitioned into an endocrinology practice to hone this focus, she was able to glean even more understanding and experience in hormone replacement therapy, and thyroid disorders. She began to search for a practice that would allow her to provide the kind of care, attention, and cutting edge medical research needed to truly help each patient that she worked with. With this in mind, she found Dr. Scott.
NP Elise Lewis looks at the whole patient picture. She enjoys educating patients and helping them to make needed lifestyle changes, overseeing successful weight loss programs, and correct hormone balancing for both men and women and providing overall health and nutrition education. She listens to her patients and gains a full understanding of what they have been experiencing. With this understanding and the correct use of diagnostic tools and labs, Elise works to find the underlying causes of her patients’ conditions and address these to achieve long-term wellness and vitality for each of her patients.
Nurse Practitioner Sue Miller has trained under two renowned integrative physicians, Dr. John Gonino, and Dr. Marcus Spurlock and has been practicing for 12 years. Prior to that she was a nurse with experience working on a hospital surgical floor, oncology, and in pediatric medicine. She has been in nursing for 30 years!
Her personal experience with a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and Lupus in her twenties piqued her interest in a functional medicine approach which looks at root causes of illness, versus just treating symptoms. Having been through this herself, she is passionate about helping her patients to heal and have better quality of life. We are proud to have her join our team at the practice of Leigh Ann Scott, M.D.
